Happy Autumn to you!

Fall came knocking at my door, I opened and fall entered. It has been a busy week, with a lot of baking: bread and ginger bread, the later going into a regional stew this coming week. And the living room got rearranged; furniture tossed and about. Yes Fall definitely has arrived once again. The bolsters of the chestnuts are growing fat. All is still green, but that won't be for long now.

And who says you have to live outside in the country to enjoy nature? This little beauty stands in the middle of the city near a tall and proud tree. Our old city has lots of trees, especially lime tree that smells so lovely in spring. I love lime tree blossom as a tea in the evening it sooths and relaxes.
And then there are the deep yellow tones that are emerging everywhere this time of year, in the leaves, in this beautiful toadstool and of course in the sheer beauty of the golden autumn light. Which calls for mobiles to be made, to catch those sunbeams as much as we can!

Tell me; do you have your soup pan ready? And your bread baking tin? And your knitting needles? 'Cause there are toast to be knit and sucky thumb mitts. Maybe there will be time for some serious reading on the couch next to the stove, so a trip to the library might also be a good idea.
Oh there is so much to enjoy.

DIY toddler bracelet

As soon as miss E. was able to reach for something, she displayed a great interest in jewelry and adornments as a baby. Girls will be girls.

Thus the need arose for a baby and toddler proof bracelet. One day I caught her playing with a cardboard roll from kitchen towels and so these bracelets came in to our lives. There are a dozen or so roaming through the house. You can find some under the table, in her toys basket, in her jewelry box etc. Together we have been making maybe a hundred or so of these bracelets. And I felt the need to show you this important accessory before she outgrows it. 

What makes them ideal is the diversity in design, and the beeswax crayons from Stockmar we use to colour them with. These crayons are nibble friendly for baby and toddler teeth, non toxic. And in the creative process anything can happen. So almost all of them have earned their nibble marks.

As a new edition we're adding paper ad-ons with some glue. "Plakken" (gluing) is the new trend this summer and fall. Just so you know ;-)

Antiques Market

The chestnuts are steadily growing on the trees at the playground, so that means it is time for the annual antiques market in town. This Sunday it was time to spend all that carefully saved pocket money (BIG grin!!!)!

And people, let the baking season begin! I found a whole bunch of lovely kitchen utensils.
I guess soon it will be meringue time. With those whisks that will become peanuts. It has a lovely little nut wood handle that charmed me away.
I also found a nice cooling rack, so now there will be plenty of room for cooling fresh baked cookies.
And my personal topper, the one I was hunting for: The Madeleine baking moulds. I needed some that would fit my too small oven. I'm not only a little city mama, but a little kitchen mama as well I must confess.
That leaves us with the lovely art deco glass bowl I found. It is a Val Saint Lambert bowl and it is such a deep and rich yellow... it was love at first site. Strange for me, because normally I don't have an eye for glass. I'm more into pottery and glazes.
The bowl proudly adorns our dinner table. Now what to do with it... fruit bowl...salad bowl...desert bowl?
